i spent my sunday looking for a stamp ._.
so i had a funnnnnnnnnn time cycling to 7elevenS, minimarts, spc, back to spc, mailboxes and in the end,

i met someone's ex ex's friend who asked me out of the blue if i was frm dhs and told me not to tell someone i saw her or she'll be embarassed cos she looks fat. LOL SOMEONE.

now i feel happy and look happy tho im nt actually happy abt having to MUG during cny it was like

15 yrs of wonderful cny, every yr with hw.

this is gnna be real long and stuff so i suggest those who dun wanna read long stuff skip this :/
btw it's nt a day by day reflection but rather my overall thoughts and how i felt as a comm member.

I've been in dunman high for 2 yrs gg on 3 this yr. when i first stepped into dhs w/o a sch badge, it was keatyin, an sc thn who helped me with my badge. it was joshua michelle keatyin who were the first people i ahd contact with, who inspired me as SCs.

Then, I went on to yr 2 as an sc, as the agent of change and influence as well. I was the one who met 1Helea, pinned the badges for 1 helea, and made the first impression on them as a facil. I rmb being an attaché and feeling kinda small for nt being able to help much. thn my cniors looked so busy and all with all their stuff and all, and i decided i wanted to be in the orientation comm 09. I tried my best as an sf in 1H and im glad people like nicholas, ruizheng yurong desirae, chongming, ziquan NEO CANNOT and looihan and valerie still rmb me and call me auntie vivian.

so far I thought i could do it and as a person, i could make orientation a success with my tangible but perhaps microscopic contributions. I tried my hardest when I was told to design a hall banner, and since it couldnt go with the theme, it wasnt used but that was okay, since i didnt expect it to be used anyway :) and then i worked for 60++ hours just to come up with the bklet, checking and checking again, editing and editing again, for a total of like 4-5 times, before I sent the bklet to the gmail, and that was after it had been edited again. imagine how i'd feel when i suddenly realise the cheng of chengxinyongzhong's gone, the page number 18 appears as 21, and then the wo men zhi jian lyrics are wrong, along with 2 words of the school song. I scanned through miss lings foreword, but i didnt get mr sng's one, but it wasnt anybodys fault a computer cnt read certain chinese words. I LEARNT, TO CHECK MORE THOROUGHLY AND ASK A FEW EDITORS TO HELP ME CHECK AS WELL. thn, the page number was a genuine mistake on my part. I really tried to make it as perfect as possible, and I WILL BE MORE CAREFUL NEXT TIME. as for the school song, i hand typed it word for word as seen frm the student handbk, and thn i checked it with last yrs bklet and this error is mine. i shall bear responsibilty for it by memorising the school song well and being able, on the spot to identify any mistakes should i need to help my junior next yr. nextly, the womenzhijian one, I learnt that online stuffs are nt rlly reliable at all times. I will listen to the mv next time and find the perfect lyrics to help my junior next time, so that future mistakes arent repeated. it was just so overwhelming to realise my hard work has been semi-futile, and i broke down on the very first day of orientation, but as soon as mr yeo told me the most impt thing was to learn, i realised it was no use merely moping and wallowing in self pity, I HAD TO HELP MAKE ORIENTATION A BIGGER SUCCESS thn it alr was.

i rlly dunno how to express this, but i felt rlly hurt when it was like the bklet was full of loopholes, when i gave copies of the completed pages in my thumbdrive to yusiang, put it in the gmail, yet god destined no one, even me after dunno how many times of looking through it, could spot the mistakes, and the mistakes could only be identified after it was printed. i felt no glory at all, the tremendous amt of effort i put into the bklet, an unused banner and the time spent on orientation dawned on me and i began to ask myself if everything was worth it, and i got my answer when I saw smiles radiating frm the yr ones faces, when I read their reflections and saw that yay, they enjoyed themselves.

I rlly and truly understood how the camera crew felt. Like in the little nyonya, the scriptwriter, and main actors/actresses get lauded, whereas the camera crew spends hours of work behind the camera, and gets scolded if audiences spot a boom mike etc. yusiang and I counted the shirts and we counted it wrongly, but I decided that as pubb ic, I should take the blame for being blind an nt counting well. I made it up when I spent almost 2 hrs with jessie, packing all the shirts and writing down meal peferences, after tht when the yr ones rewrote their sizes we had to count all the shirts and repack them, and we had to repack all the scs shirts after they had been moved, only leaving sch arnd 7. thn Creshelle, egan and I went to giants till 941pm to buy prizes for the yr ones, but i enjoyed the process as well as the packing process, because I felt that the yr ones would be so happy when they rcd sucha nice shirt, or when they won a prize. All these stuff made me realise responisbility is a huge part in leadership and that I should nt care abt the glory or the recognition, but as a backstage cameraman, i'll have to do my job well and MAKE SURE audiences only see the best, without any boom mikes.

I packed the hampers with weijie, and alot of people, and i realised that we each have our creative side and there could be fun while just wrapping hampers! i thn stayed to decorate the hall with comm mbers the next day, till 8pm, and then on concert day i went arnd sticking class seating arrangements, hanging cloth, pasting lightsticks, deciding on the prize winners, borrowing a tablecloth, tending to a sick boy, counting and contacting class i/cs to see how many people were there for the photos. and i didnt even have time to eat dinner so I went down to eat dinner with nicole and creshelle and cynthia. I felt like i had to do what I did because fabian and egan were gg kuku being concert i/cs and i as a pubb ic did nt accomplish anything but a so called screwed bklet in the eyes of others. It's still my darling, but as a leader in training it was right for me to SHE JI WEI REN, cos mr yeo's right. it was the yr ones who needed their happy last night, it was the yr ones who needed to be pleased, not anyone else.

I was so proud that i made an impact on the yr ones, becos BEN TOH frm 1I and TOH WEIXUAN frm 1F looked up to the scs and actually wanna lead cos of us, and they became my "brothers" cos hey were inspired by me, gillian and yurong. and came bk to the hall aft they were dismissed to take a pic with me. I felt so good when people actually remebered me, when i made them play honey will you marry me on the rooftop tennis court, when i remebered their names, when i played with them, taught them cheers and ran with them to reach stations (for 1I), played games with them, did cheers and accompanied them to get their stuff. it was fun to see them having fun, it was fun to see them so shy and new and stuff, and lastly, it was fun to see them actually like us and look up to us.

I really care bt the fact i made mistakes and no, its nt alright because i will nt make the same mistake twice. and YES! its alright if the comm does backstage jobs, because i love y'all my orientation comm, as you guys have put in so much effort that you guys deserve to shine in my eyes.

with my entire holidays spent on orientation, my parents have been questioning me what for, "if your brother cant even get into dunman high after you slogged your guts out for the school" and all those missed 6J outings, movie outings which i could have gone for. All of these my parents questioned, along with the gargantuan pile of stuff theyd term hw. I think that all the outings, along with my holidays, are transient matters that will not matter in the long run, because ultimately my true friends nevr disappear, as they appeared on my hse for my bday, and my outings can materialise as long as 6J/cresmic lives. as for orientation, it's just so indelible, unforgettable and unsurmountable. I know its really equivocal and vague of me to say so, but the lessons ive learnt frm orientation in terms of caring, serving and leading really cannot be replaced by any amount of fun or laughter, all of which was fused with my learning process during orientation. only the comm will laugh when we say okya, wet weather plan, das and logistics, and its sth only we can understand, for its sth we've once shared, we've once went through and once enjoyed as a comm. its bonding learning and play all mixed and jumbled up into one big ice jelly bowl,
with the ice as the obstacles we'd have to fight, and eventually the ice will melt, clearing all the troubles. Likewise its like icebreaker games. I made so many new friends by dissolving the ice and getting to the sweet stuff underneath.
thn theres the peach. ultimately we got to the end of orientation, the concert, and we all tasted the fruit of our success, which is ultimately and almost always SWEET.
so, i really cant express what i feel further. cos its just so complex but i really love you guys and orientation. GO GUYS! lastly, i think orientation has heightened my passion for leadership.
